Addicted to Outcomes

The sooner we focus on the real reasons why we do projects the Outcomes that the business needs the sooner we will stop having project failures. Nobody really cares about the outputs : the new web service, or the new sales brochure, or the new super-whizzy App. But what they do care about, passionately, is what the outputs will enable them to do : to achieve the business outcome they need (e.g. improved customer engagement, streamlined sales-force management, stronger data quality).
